The itinerary to follow for 2 days in Antwerp.

Day 1: From the station to the Royal Palace in Antwerp

As you leave the station (1), take a moment to admire the eclectic architecture of Astrid Square (2). You will notice a red archway, which you can walk through to discover Antwerp's Asian quarter on Van Wesenbekestraat (3). Then head towards the city centre via the diamond district (4). Before turning onto the long Meir avenue (6), take a right to admire the Opera House (5). A few metres from the start of the alley, enter the majestic Stadsfeestzaal shopping arcade (7). Continue a few steps further to the former Royal Palace of Antwerp (8). On the same square, you can pay your first visit to the Rubenshuis (9) to learn more about the artist's life. Then continue along Schuttershofstraat (10). A short detour will take you to the Bourla Schouwburg theatre (11), where you can admire its classical architecture. Then stroll along Nationalestraat (12), among trendy shops, galleries and cafés. Next, admire the masterpieces on display at the Antwerp Museum of Fine Arts (13) and end the day with a visit to the surprising houseboat Huis De Vijf Werelddelen (14).

Day 2: Between a stroll along the quays and a visit to the museum

Start your second day with a little peace and quiet in the Beguinage district (1). Then head to the city centre and its legendary Boerentoren tower (2). Continue your walk to the banks of the Scheldt, and more specifically to the Saint Anne Tunnel (3). If you feel like it, you can cross the river, but if you are pressed for time, go down and admire the vintage escalator, which is still in service. Head back up to the DIVA museum (4), the diamond museum, to learn more about how diamonds are made. Make your way towards the bell towers of Notre-Dame Cathedral (6), passing by Groenplaats (5). Walk through the narrow streets lined with restaurants to reach the Grote Markt (7), Antwerp's main square. Finish up in the city centre and enjoy some fresh air on the banks of the Scheldt. To the east, you can't miss Het Steen (8), a former 13th-century fortified castle. The penultimate stop on your day trip is at the top of the Museum aan de Stroom (9), modern building that you can't miss in the centre of the harbour. Enjoy a 360° panorama of the entire city. Finish your visit at the interactive Red Star Line museum (10) and travel through the life stories of its passengers.
